Go #10

He's batting top of the line up, actually playing instead of sitting, making great in field plays, sliding into home, hitting some big ones out there in the out field, still patting all his teammates on the back and encouraging them, and still loving the game. He has proven himself for sure. So proud of the way he has handled himself this season. He is playing in the county tournament this weekend and they even made the state tournament in a couple of weeks. I think he's happy.

Piano recital 2013

> The boys had their piano recital today. I'm feeling like this was the last piece of the puzzle before summer could begin. They did great. They haven't played on this piano before and I think it threw Jake off a little. But he did well also.

Kidspeak!

The boys had their final kidspeak performance this year. This is a children's choir through our church whose goal is to teach kids that they are missionaries right now. They plan different events throughout the year. This year they ministered to the VBS children.  They had over 300 kids at our church's VBS program.  The boys enjoy being a part of the Kidspeak choir! I have a few (slightly lousy) videos up  on you tube of a few songs.  (Some of the VBS kids were down in the front and kind of in front of me.)
Here's a link to one:

The others are on my youtube "wwoodse". So, for family and friends, enjoy!

It's a Good Thing There's....

It's a Good thing there's "that mom".  You know the one. She is always taking pictures of her oldest's first season of baseball; camera constantly in tow.  AND! She was kind enough to take pics for all of us lousy parents out there who have sat through more than there fair share of games and getting out the door with needed baseball equipment is the best we've got.  I'm certainly thankful for her generosity so that I have pics of my baby!

Now, if there were only one of those moms on Grant's team, I'd have it made!

There's No Crying.....

In Baseball. Well, maybe not so much for some of the boys on Jake's team. They are indeed the Bad News Bears. Jake hasn't cried, but his teammates have made up for that. The last game was stopped three different times so the pitcher could ask his dad to fix his cup. They won a game but ended up having to forfeit the win because they didn't have enough players. But, baseball season is almost over and, well, there's always next year!

Dennis the Menace

My Dennis the Menace still visits around here. He left a note for Dad which (after the fact) makes me smile. He used his phonics charts to figure out the spelling of "television". And, well, that makes me happy too.

A New Smile

It took pulling, wiggling, turning. He wanted it gone, but it just seemed to hang on. Finally, last night, Daddy got the stubborn tooth he wanted out! I'm liking the new smile. It only stays for such a short time!

Playing Time

Going to rant a bit. You've been forewarned.

Grant was put on a new ball team this year.  Only one other boy from his old team is on this one.  It's a good team that practices A LOT!  They practice for several hours at a time. It's serious business.  The boys on this team play together for spring and fall ball so they all (including the coach) know each other well.  Now, I'm not just saying this because I'm his mom, but Grant is a very, very good ball player.  He has had some amazing plays and is a solid hitter.  Grant has proven himself time and time again.  He is always the one to cheer and encourage a teammate when they've made a mistake or struck out.  A true team player!

But, he's been sitting for two innings almost every game. Sometimes he will sit just one time.  Of course, my "walking-story-problem" guy figures in his head, "If there are this many players, and five innings a game, then each player should sit so many times every so many innings".  He knows the coach's "math" is wrong.  But I've heard from many other parents that Little League can get very political too. I think he's not getting playing time because he hasn't played with this particular team for spring and fall.  Let me just say that the coach's son has never sat an inning at all.

This problem bothers Grant. But he has had the best attitude about it; a much better attitude than I have!  He stays positive and cheers his team on without complaining to the coach. He shows disappointment but never talks back to coach either which is more than I can say of the other boys.  Now, if only I can keep from wringing the coach's neck for the rest of the season! I wouldn't want to have another embarrassing moment of Mama Grizzly coming out!

Is It Summer Yet?

Our boys' school year has been finished for about a week now, but we are still rolling pretty steady around these parts.  Baseball season is still in full swing with four games a week and three tournaments left.  The boys have a piano recital and a musical performance with their choir in June as well.

Allyson only has one day left of school then the students all go in Monday to help scrub that school down till it shines!   Then it's off to camp. None of her friends could go the week she was, but that didn't stop her one bit.  She said she didn't mind just going to camp and meeting people. My word! I'd never have done that at that age! She'll be fine, no doubt.

The boys are looking forward to VBS and soccer camp too. And just to keep all my hard work from being lost, the boys will be doing math, Chinese, and reading throughout the summer.  Jake is working on his four times tables. Hoping to get most of them memorized before we officially start our school year.  Of course,  I wouldn't want to leave Ally out! She'll be reading (which she enjoys) and math (which she loathes) during her summer as well.

Boy, I sound like a tyrant right now! But really it doesn't take long to sit and review a little each day. Grant always has a book in his hand anyway!

Happy Summer People!
