Blustery Day Activities

I saw this idea on McMama's blog and thought I'd give it a try with my Denice the Menace.  He loved pushing the bulldozers all around in the rice in my old pan. I was thinking it was a great indoor activity for when the weather is too cold and windy like today! We're in the thirties up here with some major wind going on (BLAH!).

However, I'm thinking that McMama must have some boys that are slightly more subdued than Jake. His rice went everywhere despite me telling him to keep it in the dish several times. Now look, I expected rice on the floor, but Jake uses a lot of GUSTO and rice is now in more crevices than I can count. At least he enjoyed himself. Maybe next time I'll try dried beans.

Any good blustery day activities from you all?  I'm starting to lock myself in for the winter.

One grandpa still talks about is when his mom took brown butcher paper and drew roads all over it. Steve played for hours and everyone knew that whenever he stopped to sit he fell asleep.

Griffin loves to do that at his Grandma's. She uses a cake pan and tons of rice. It ends up all over her carpet because he must bury the equipment.

I've done a basin with water and sailboats for Alex when he was younger.

Yep, I am getting ready to hibernate! I am not sure if you are into using paint with the kiddos or not; but, it is fun to marble paint. Put dabs of paint on a piece of paper inside a box or old pan and move the box around and let the marbles just roll around through the paint. Also, you can use cars/trucks to make cool tracks with paint on paper. You could have an indoor snowball fight using socks, bunched up papers, or cottonballs (not that those go far though...but they are softer). You could give the kiddos paper plates to "ice" skate around on. Just some ideas that came to mind.
